The 2nd European Games without tobacco

The 2nd European Games will be held from 21 to 30 June, 2019, in the capital of Belarus – Minsk. More than 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will take part in the largest multisport forum of the continent, 200 sets of awards will be completed for at 15 sports, as well as the licenses for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

It is very important that the 2nd European Games will be held as a tobacco free event!

The accomplishment of the task is handled by the “Directorate of the 2nd European Games of 2019” in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus and the sanitary and epidemiological service. Special areas for smoking will be set in fan zones, carefully though-out navigation will help to find them, also there will be signs containing information on the places where you cannot come with tobacco products. The organizers plan a PR-project, a tricky part of which is the opportunity to exchange tobacco products for souvenirs with the symbols of the forum.

As a tobacco-free event, the 2nd European Games demonstrate an example of fight against tobacco products consumption, they are aimed to ensure the rights of all non-smokers (athletes, volunteers, guests, and children) to breath clean air.

It is worth mentioning that in recent years there has been a positive trend in holding tobacco-free sporting events. For example, the 2002 World Cup in Japan and the Republic of Korea, the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk. Therefore, the holding of the 2nd European Games in the same format will be an excellent contribution to the popularization of healthy lifestyle not only in the country, but also abroad.
